Saturday, we drove to Beaufort SC for my signing at the Bay Street Trading Company. It was a simply gorgeous day, so we rode with the top down, eating Easter chocolate from my sister and laughing at NPR's Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. We arrived in time to change into signing clothes at my parents' house, then zipped downtown to the store. When we arrived, the street preacher was at it, hollering the Gospel at the top of his hearty lungs. I warned [livejournal.com profile] philipmcavery not to wander too close to him, since there was no real need to offer the man a target. Luckily, because of city ordinances, he quit ranting at 1:00, right as my signing was scheduled to begin.

We learned that wearing pirate clothes on Bay Street in Beaufort isn't the draw it is elsewhere - there are so many tour guides and docents in similar dress that tourists hardly blink. Someone arrrr-ed at my husband while he was walking outside the store, but that was the biggest reaction I know about. Nevertheless, we sold twenty-one books, so I call it a success.

Mama, me, Lish and Daddy

My sister and father left for their hockey game immediately after the signing, so my mother, my husband and I went out for seafood. There's nothing like a plateful of scallops to finish off a nice day.

Hey [livejournal.com profile] faithhunter, I had a tourist ask me for directions to another store (luckily it was a place I knew about, so I could tell him), and someone else ask for a recommendation on Civil War books for children. *hee*
