It was an amazing weekend at ConCarolinas, and I can't wait to talk about it. For now, I wanted to let folks know that I'll be guesting at Dragonmount this week, so if you'd like to join the discussion or just see what we talk about, come on over! We've already been chatting about pirates and publishing, and I foresee even more fun to come.

ConCarolinas rocks!
Jun. 2nd, 2008 04:52 pmWe had a bang-up weekend at the Con. It was my first, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was determined to have a great time. And I did! ConCarolinas is a small but friendly con, and the folks in charge treated me like a rock star - when I arrived, I was given not only my participant packet with my schedule, but a bagful of goodies and a bottle of Cabernet. I was scheduled for 11 panels, with a lot of neat people (Faith Hunter, David B Coe, Christina Stiles, Edmund Schubert, and more.) I was delighted to see my darling agent, Holly McClure, who'd made the drive from Georgia to be there. A bunch of us had made arrangements to have dinner together Friday night, so we locals led the rest to Sir Edmond Halley's, a British pub in south Charlotte. We had a wonderful time getting to know each other (although I ended up missing my late panel that night - oops!)
Saturday was a whirlwind of panels and book signings and by the time we had dinner, I was ready for a nap (which I started in the restaurant and continued in
faithhunter's comfortable RV - thank you again!) I had a late panel Saturday night, "Rogues: Why We Love Our Bad Boys", and we have all agreed that anything you hear from anyone who claims to have been there MUST be a LIE! *grin* We admit nothing!
Sunday morning I joined Ed Schubert and several others to run a Writer's Workshop, which was surprisingly more fun than I expected, then finished my service with a panel comparing game writing with novel writing. I took
davidbcoe to get his car, then returned to finish shopping and collect
philipmcavery for the trip home. Let me tell you, folks - saying goodbye at a con is eerily similar to the goodbye-ing at faire. I found as many people as I could to bid farewell, then made my way to the parking lot. Halfway to the car, Faith came running to grab me so I could come back and sign one more book for one more fan. Which meant the goodbyes began again! Eventually I did get all the way to my car, and drove home for a lovely nap on my comfy couch.
But today I'm already wishing I could do it again.
And I just realized I left out a very important portion of the weekend. I had a minion!
beatrizwench carried my bag on Friday, fetched ice, closed doors, kept me on time, located Faith's purse when it went missing Saturday night, brought chocolate and just rocked. I am so lucky to have a minion of my very own! I highly recommend it. Thank you, darling!
