Today in 1871, the Great Chicago Fire destroyed 17000 buildings and killed 250 people. Popular wisdom holds that Mrs O'Leary's cow started it, and I absolutely believe it. Cows are devious. Never trust a cow. And I'm not holding out hope for the birds, either.

I'm working on page proofs for the mass market of Mad Kestrel this week. Tedious work, especially when my head is demanding to go work on new stuff.

And hey, costume people...I had my heart set on a black and burgundy Victorian touring hat (similar to this in style) I saw last year at the faire, but this year all they have are cream and pink ones. Ugh. I found a number of vendors online, but I know nothing about any of them, which leaves me hesitant to send my hard-earned dollars. Does anyone have a recommendation for a vendor of such chapeaux?

EDIT - I really don't want a straw hat. I'd prefer fabric.
