Oct. 23rd, 2008 04:45 pmToday in 42 BC, Marcus Junius Brutus (Et tu, Brute?) committed suicide after his defeat by Mark Antony and Octavian at the Second Battle of Philippi. Dante declared him such a sinner that he should spend eternity being chewed in Satan's mouth. Yuck.
If you could see my DVD shelf, you might wonder about my good taste. Some of my movies tanked in the box office, and others are just goofy. But I love them all the same. So today's Thursday Thirteen is
Misty's Thirteen Favorite Movies Nobody Else Much Liked!
1. Van Helsing - I thought it was funny. And please, how can you hate a movie with a shirtless Hugh Jackman?)
2. American Dreamer - Tom Conti was adorable, and the whole bit with the Spanish ambassador cracks me up.
3. Independence Day - The science is ridiculous, I know.
4. Skeleton Key - People, this is like a trip back to the culture of my teenage-hood. I knew kids who could arrange to put a root on their enemies. Spend any real time in the Lowcountry, and you'll start seeing the signs.
5. Dead Again - Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson when they still liked each other. And reincarnation. *sigh*
6. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Sam Rockwell's fuzzy boots won me.
7. Willow - How can you not love a movie with lines like "I dwell in darkness without you and it went away?" and "I don't love her, she kicked me in the face! I hate her... Don't I?"
8. Heavy Metal - It was cool when I was 17, so it's still cool to me.
9. Jumping Jack Flash - Who didn't want to rescue a British secret agent and make him fall in love with her?
10. Constantine - I wanted to hate this, I did. I mean, Keanu? But somehow I keep watching it.
11. Pump Up The Volume - Christian Slater was the kind of rebel I'd have wanted to be.
12. My Best Friend's Wedding - I don't own this one, but if it's on TV, I'm almost certain to land there. Two words...Rupert Everett.
13. The Wedding Singer - and I don't even really like Sandler or Barrymore. I think it's the 80's calling me.

And, oh, Independence Day kicks major ass. And Willow! I have watched that this very week. And Constantine.... I bought that on DVD the minute it came out. As long as I don't watch the movie and read the comic at the same time, it's good. Pump Up the Volume is also CHOICE.

Date: 2008-10-29 01:26 pm (UTC)In the 2005 movie version, director Joe Wright decided to set the story about ten years earlier than it is usually set, so that he could use the earlier fashion styles. I LOVE this!
Also, vibrant vulnerable Lizzie fits my image better than cool witty Lizzy -- thoug both do a good job, IMHO.
