Today in 1618, English adventurer, writer, and courtier Sir Walter Raleigh was beheaded for allegedly conspiring against James I of England. Once upon a time he was Elizabeth's shining star. How the mighty do fall.

It has suddenly become winter. Usually the weather stays warm until after Halloween, but the last three nights have dropped below freezing. I like cold weather, myself. The only time I don't like the cold is the half-hour before the last show at faire - my muscles start to tighten up, and it's hard to stay loose enough to dance. But it's still better than dancing in 90+ heat!

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] arhyalon, guess what arrived here today? Yep, your book! Perfect timing, too, since I just finished a book this afternoon. I'll be starting yours at bedtime, and I can't wait - it sounds great!

My friend [livejournal.com profile] faithhunter has posted a great discussion of editorial letters on Magical Words. If you're new at the writing game, or just curious about the mysterious machinations of publishing, go read it.

I'll be signing books at the Carolina Renaissance Faire on Saturday, November 8, from 10 until 12, then from 3:30 until 5:30. If you're going to faire that day, please come and see me! I will have books available for sale, or you can bring your own copy along.

And because I think it's a good comment to be making:
Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.
I have friends who are in loving, committed, gay relationships that are marriages in every way but the legal, and strangely enough, I don't feel threatened in the least. *smile*

Poor Sir Wally! Even during his time as the queen's pet, he still got no love! :(

A good friend of mine plays Sir Walter at VARF (both old and new shows). Anywho, sometimes during cout, the Queen would have him arrested. She would say "send him to the tower"...and he would reply, "same room?"

*giggles*

It's funny that happened today and you mentioned it...I was watching "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" last night and he's a dashing figure for certain. I was reading about him on Wikipedia and he was mentioned in "The Rock."

I had no idea that Raleigh was beheaded! He was a favorite of mine in elementary school I remember writing a paper on him. (Maybe I knew back then, but I'd forgotten.) Poor guy!

As to the book arriving...wheee! (Hope you like it. ;-)

Amen to that sister! That last show was BRUTAL only because of the weather and how quick it would just drop off! I'd be like WTH??
