mistymasseyToday in 1962, acclaimed author Misty Massey was born, and the world rejoiced. It's also Guy Fawkes' Day. When I was a kid, I always wanted to burn a Guy on my birthday, and my parents never let me. I had to wait until I was a grownup with my own house and yard.
The joke around the library lately has been that I would get a new president for my birthday, and to my great joy, I got the one I wanted. I promised myself I wouldn't watch the returns, because I knew I'd get all flustered if I did, but that was a futile promise. I watched until they called Alaska, then I stumbled off to bed. I was a little dopey all day, but it was worth it.
My sister sent me the The Dresden Files DVDs and the 1812 Overture/Wellngton's Victory CD. My husband gave me a pair of deliciously soft sheepskin slippers from the Sheepskin Shop at faire, and the Beetle gave me the second season of Dexter. My media specialist gave me a gift certificate to the local sushi place I love, and my mom sent something that hasn't arrived yet.
But my shiny new president is the best present of all.
