Nov. 10th, 2008 08:34 pmToday in 1775, the United States Marine Corps was founded. Hoorah, y'all.
I signed books at the Carolina Renaissance Faire on Saturday, which turned out to be a very successful event. I'm not sure I've ever seen so many people at the faire in a single day. It was Pirate's Christmas weekend, and patrons were streaming in continually until sometime around 3. Even then, there were stragglers entering the faire until well after 4:30. (It closes at 5:30, if that gives you an indication of how crazy things were.) Alas, when the crowd is that big, it means going home will take a while, since there's only one road in and out of the grounds. I packed up the books shortly after the cannon, but we stayed in our tent until well after dark, hanging with friends.
The neatest moment of the day had to be the woman who saw the book, announced, "I just read that from the library!" and bought a copy. I love the idea of people borrowing my book from the library, since that was THE place I wanted to be when I was a kid.
For those folks who saw me dance on Sunday, I have sad news...the Button that granted me my Super Pirate Powers of Man Distraction vanished during the second show. *weeps* I'll have to figure out a way to distract men without the Button's help.
