Today in 1949, Cuba recognised Israel. Unfortunately, Israel couldn't recall Cuba's name, so it just smiled and excused itself to go get a drink from the bar.

I had a couple of errands to run today, and somehow while I was out in the world, weather decided to happen. Yep, they're calling for snow tonight. Once upon a time, I used to love snow days. That was back when I worked all year around. Now that I'm employed by the school district and only work 185 days a year, I hate snow, because we have to make up the days we miss.

Oh well, at least I'll have time to stay home and write some more.

If you are also about to be snowed in for a while, you might want to get some good reading in. May I suggest my friend [livejournal.com profile] davidbcoe's brand-new, just-released The Horsemen's Gambit? Amazon isn't shipping it until tomorrow, but I know for a fact it's on the shelf at Barnes & Noble right now.

And if you're up for a challenge, you can try to win some free books! [livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow (the world famous Joshua Palmatier) is hosting a contest on his LJ in which you can score copies of the latest releases from him, Diana Pharoah Francis, Jim C Hines and Elizabeth Bear. And [livejournal.com profile] fireun is also running a giveaway of books by Joshua Palmatier, Patricia Bray and S C Butler right here! Go, win, read. And stay warm.

I *hate* snow days.

I have an 8 am class which means I need to be up and out the door by no later than 6 am if I want to make sure to arrive in time for class--given the 45-60 minute commute on an average day.

Guess what time my site makes the decision to close?

Yup. 7 am. I'm almost always at the office by the time the Powers that Be decide to close the door.

Ahhhh, well, I'll pack jeans and a sweatshirt and if they close, I'll head to my desk, change into something comfy and get a half a day's work in before braving the crazy roads and going home.

That's awful! We usually don't hear until early the next morning, but nowhere near as late as 7 am.

Whatever happens, be warm and safe, darling!

The last time we had snow-free ground here in the Southern Tier section of New York was prior to Thanksgiving.

Also, Jim C. Hines' book included in one of the giveaways you mention was fantastic. I actually read it from start to finish yesterday.

Which is a good thing considering I went to the booksigning on Saturday of Joshua Palmatier ([livejournal.com profile] jpsorrow), Patricia Bray ([livejournal.com profile] pbray), S.C. Butler ([livejournal.com profile] scbutler) and Barbara Campbell and came away with 10 books.

More snow seems to be translating into more reading...and writing.

I'm so jealous - I'd have loved to go to the Big Signing!

I'd flaunt my current 75 degrees at you, but we usually hit 100 in May, so there's a trade-off. o.O Stay safe and warm!
