Today in 1808, the Rum Rebellion, the only successful (albeit short-lived) armed takeover of the government in Australia, occurred. Wouldn't it have been cool if the history books referred to the 1861 South Carolina secession as the Peach 'Shine Rebellion?

They've been running commercials for the new episodes of Burn Notice. And I realized that Bruce Campbell is probably the only man on this planet who could call me "Baby" like that without insulting me.

The man is clearly a force of nature.

My favorite conflict name is, "The War of Jenkins' Ear" -- which made me laugh loudly in the middle of my grad-level history class. My prof looked at me like, "what?" And I said, "You weren't making that up?"

I'm always tickled by the little old ladies in my home town who still refer to the American Civil War as "The Late Unpleasantness."
