Today in 1606, the trial of Guy Fawkes and other member of the Gunpowder Plot began, and ended three days later when they were executed. Talk about your speedy trial!

It's been a rather neat day. First, Neil Gaiman's marvelous novel, The Graveyard Book, won the Newbery Medal. It was well-deserved - go read this book, y'all.

Speaking of reading other people's books, I also received an ARC of Lisa Mantchev's upcoming debut novel, Eyes Like Stars in the mail today. Oh boy! I get to read it before you do! But I'll let you know what you should be looking forward to. *grin*

And now, a drumroll please.....I had to wait until the Newberys were announced before I was allowed to tell my sooper-seekrit news. My book, Mad Kestrel, has been nominated for the 2010 South Carolina Association of School Librarians Young Adult Book Award! Mad Kestrel will be on the shelves in every high school in South Carolina, and the students themselves will vote to pick the winner. I'm up against some heavy talent (Caroline Cooney, Sherman Alexie, Laurie Halse Anderson and others) but I'm just so thrilled to be nominated. There are somewhere around 400 high schools in SC. That's a whole lot of books being bought by the libraries. Sales make me very happy!

If you want to see the whole list, I'll hide it back here.

Thanks, me darlin'!

The Follett rep came by today, and said the same thing, that just making the list was a very big deal. Which set me to shivering the rest of the afternoon. I can't think about winning, or I'll spend the next few months nauseous. *laugh*

I will be rooting for you.

I actually found a copy of your book in a local bookstore today - was walking out and the thing just about jumped off the shelf and hit me - so now I finally get to read it!
(yes, I friended you without even having read it yet... because you're interesting in non-book ways too :D)(but I was like OMG!! I know the person who wrote this! Nice part of my day.)

YAy! Congratualtions!
I haven't read everything on that list, but I've read Twisted, and I'm partway through City of Bones; you're sure to beat both of them hands down.
