mistymasseyToday in 1865, Columbia SC was burned as Confederate forces fled advancing Union troops. It has averaged 5 or 6 degrees hotter than the rest of the state ever since.
The seventh grade is prepping for the annual research project, so they sent us a list of topics for which they needed us to pull books. Some of them were easy to find books on - the Trail of Tears, Vietnam Way, Battle of Iwo Jima, leukemia, history of the internet, and so on. But some of the topics may prove challenging. Things like Lakai shoes, Cuban cigars, and gum. Gum? Huh. I did the best I could, resulting in very sore arms and back from carting books across the room all day.
Tomorrow is my precious little man's sixteenth birthday. While I'd prefer to spend the day in bed, curtains drawn, pretending he isn't damn near grown, I still have to go to work.
