Today in 1780, Charleston, South Carolina was taken by British forces. They gave it back once the sand fleas started biting, though.

I'm tiefing this from [livejournal.com profile] lisamantchev. People who work outside the home have a hard enough time making healthy delicious dinners for their families, but when they're also writers, it becomes doubly challenging. So here is my list of what the family eats when I'm buried in edits/under a deadline/determined not to stop writing until my hands fall off.

1. Flatbread pizza. No, really, it's not that I'm forcing you to make your own dinner, not at all. It's fun! You can add your own ingredients! And cook it as long as you like it!
2. Sandwiches. Granted, I do try to buy healthy meats and cheeses, and the sandwiches might be subs or they might be paninis. But yeah, it's still stuff on bread.
3.Spaghetti and turkey meatballs. Incredibly easy and fast, especially since the meatballs are premade. At least they're turkey!
4.Breakfast for dinner. The Beetle loves this, so it does double-duty as an easy dinner AND a huge source of Mom-points.
5.Chinese takeout. Completely unhealthy, a little expensive, and the MSG scares me to death. But sometimes I need those Crab Rangoons to make the day worth living.
6.Crockpot. When I remember to thaw something the night before, this is the best. Throw whatever's handy into the pot and go to work. Ta da!
7.Salad. I like salad. With croutons.
8.Rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. Look how I worked my fingers to the bone roasting this for you! Yeah, they never buy that excuse, either.
9.Week in review. This is pretty much the same as Lisa's Smorgasborgas. Whatever's left over gets warmed up. Fun for the whole family.
10.Let Todd cook. When all else fails, and my imagination is firmly at sea and NOT in the kitchen, I tell the husband to cook. It usually ends up as something with curry in it, but hey, at least I didn't have to do it.

Is that not the oddest feeling of relieved "thank gawd I didn't have to make anything tonight"?

(We end up awash in starches and red meat when The Boy is in charge. *G*)

I think the Beetle would happily live on french fries if I let him. :D
