mistymasseyToday in 1606, The Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery departed England carrying settlers who founded, at Jamestown, Virginia, the first of the thirteen colonies that became the United States. I guess this was the original Christmas cruise.
Things have been tight this year, so we had to wait until this week to get the Beetle's big present. I knew where I planned to go to get it, but when I got there, they'd run out. I asked a manager, just to be certain, and got a rather snide smile as she assured me I'd waited too long and I wouldn't be finding one before Christmas. "There aren't any left in Charlotte," she said, "but maybe you can find a used one on Craigslist or something." philipmcavery and I talked for a while about how to handle the situation. He's an understanding kid, and we knew he'd be thrilled with whatever we had for him on Christmas Day, but I couldn't help being disappointed myself.
Friday morning,philipmcavery had the day off, so he went out shopping. Lo! and behold! he found the present! For a reasonable price, too. I so wanted to run back up to that other store and tell that manager we'd found a brand new one with no actual effort, just to pay her back for being snarky.
But I won't. Holiday time and all. *wicked grin*
