I woke up around 3:30 this morning. The house was quiet, all was well, but suddenly light flashed past the windows. Lightning...an early morning, completely unforecast storm, I assumed. My husband sometimes leaves the top down on his car when he's sure it won't rain overnight, and I worried that he might have done so this time, so I threw on my robe and slipped out to the driveway to check. The car was fine, but I noticed that the sky was clear and starry. The lightning was heat lightning dancing through a cloud bank off to the north. The phenomenon of lighting flashing into a clear sky was amazing. No rain, no thunder, just soft, lovely, unearthy light. I sat on my front steps for a while, enjoying the peace and splendor.

I wish all of you can accidentally find something beautiful, too.

That's amazing! :D Don't you love random natural beauty like that? The most amazing sight, I've ever seen, was walking after a rain storm (I live in the country) and there's a huge field and in the far far distance down the road is a forest and in the sky to the west, with the sun setting behind it was a thunderhead and it was perfectly reflected in the completley still puddle of water on the road and it was blue with pink and red behind it of the sun it was just...breathtaking

Posted too soon, what was most amazing was the fact that it threw my perspective off, it just made me realize how HUGE the sky is. Man I wish I had a camera!

I do love random natural beauty, more than anything. I remember spending evenings on the beach, watching a squall line approach from out at sea. It's incredible to see that wall of rain marching toward you.

And when I was a teenager, the land across the street from my house was undeveloped, so there were lots of big trees that tossed and rolled when storms blew in. I spent hours sitting in my living room in front of the picture window, watching those trees toss.

And hey, there's nothing so gorgeous as the hours before a hurricane hits. The sky becomes an unnatural yellow, and everything goes so still.
