Jun. 30th, 2011 08:44 pmI woke up around 3:30 this morning. The house was quiet, all was well, but suddenly light flashed past the windows. Lightning...an early morning, completely unforecast storm, I assumed. My husband sometimes leaves the top down on his car when he's sure it won't rain overnight, and I worried that he might have done so this time, so I threw on my robe and slipped out to the driveway to check. The car was fine, but I noticed that the sky was clear and starry. The lightning was heat lightning dancing through a cloud bank off to the north. The phenomenon of lighting flashing into a clear sky was amazing. No rain, no thunder, just soft, lovely, unearthy light. I sat on my front steps for a while, enjoying the peace and splendor.
I wish all of you can accidentally find something beautiful, too.

Date: 2011-07-01 10:28 pm (UTC)And when I was a teenager, the land across the street from my house was undeveloped, so there were lots of big trees that tossed and rolled when storms blew in. I spent hours sitting in my living room in front of the picture window, watching those trees toss.
And hey, there's nothing so gorgeous as the hours before a hurricane hits. The sky becomes an unnatural yellow, and everything goes so still.
