Eeeek!

I got home from a quick shopping trip this morning, to find an envelope on my porch. From Tor.

My hands were shaking terribly, but I got the thing open without destroying the contents. Inside was a note from Denis and the edits I'd need to do for final turn-in. He had assured me some time ago that, because of all the rewriting I did before they bought it, the final edit wouldn't be a big deal, and he was right. Less than 40 pages, with mostly small changes requested.

I don't have a deadline yet, but I'm waiting to hear back on that. I can't imagine it'll be long, though, since the changes aren't extensive. Which means I may not be able to go to Charleston this weekend as previously planned. But I can live with that.

Another step on the Book Journey! Woot!

How exciting!

Was it just a list of changes to be made, or did the manuscript come in marked up?

All marked up, but he only sent the 44 pages that needed changes. Most of those were small changes, too, so I'm sure I can get it done quickly.

Out of curiosity, what kind of changes are they at this stage? Are these grammatical things or other use of language issues, or more like: "Add a scene where so-and-so tells so-and-so about the whatever"?

Well, this time around, he asked for some individual word changes, a few paragraphs cut and a couple of places he'd like a bit added. But even the "add a bit"s aren't very extensive. Thank goodness! I actually rewrote this one twice for Tor already, before they agreed to buy it, so I was a little nervous about the line edits. Whatever he sent I'd have done, of course, but it was pleasant to look over the pages and realize they wouldn't take long at all.

Whew!
