When I was a child, the local PBS station ran the old Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon serials every morning, and I watched them eagerly. Hokey stories, terrible special effects (hey, it was the forties!) and I loved them. When the movie came out in 1980, I loved it - it was perfectly campy and it had that great Queen soundtrack. So tonight I was looking forward to the remake. So far I'm not impressed. Why not? Because this was Ming.

And this, too.

This guy? Not even close. They're not even calling him 'Merciless', for goodness sake. Just Ming.

In 1980 we drove through a snowstorm (4"+ already on the ground and coming down steadily) to make it to this movie's debut. Big, classic theater building. We were three of maybe fifteen people who made it, and even the movie theater owner came down to watch it with us. Sad it sounds like it's going to crap this time.
