I just saw a commercial for the blasphemy that has been committed against Susan Cooper's amazing Dark Is Rising sequence. I knew long ago I wouldn't be going to see this movie, but the commercial cemented that choice. It looks ridiculous. The name of the movie went from The Dark Is Rising to The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising and seems to be settled on merely The Seeker. I wonder if someone finally decided to distance the movie even further, since the story's already ruined.

I really really want to see this, but I really really don't at the same time.

*sigh*

I hope The Golden Compass is better!

Interesting. Had not heard of this book and from the previews thought this was the American take on the Russian film Night Watch (based on the book of the same name). Plots look similar, but I could be wrong. Night Watch the book had a slightly different plot than the movie and I'd heard they were making an Americanized version of it. Seems I was wrong in my guessing. May have to check out this Susan Cooper book :)

Oh you really should check out the books! The Dark Is Rising sequence is among the list of books-I-would-put-myself-in-danger-to-rescue-in-a-housefire. Simply wonderful.

But if you simply must watch the movie, watch it before you read the book. Because the movie has ripped out the book's guts, thrown them on the ground, stomped on them and and is now looking at its shoe, wondering what those stains are.
