Homework sure isn't like I remember.
Dec. 5th, 2007 09:21 pmPoetry is a tricky beast.
philipmcavery writes gorgeous poetry, but all I can manage is stuff that sounds suspiciously like an emo twelve-year-old. The Beetle's Creative Writing class is just beginning a poetry unit, and yesterday he was a little nervous. Today when he got into the car, he was terribly excited about his homework. He'd been assigned to bring a song of his choice to school (on CD.) Once in class, he's supposed to read the lyrics aloud, then play the song. (What happens after that, I'm not certain. I'll let you know.) He chose his current favorite song, Lost Heaven by L'Arc-en-Ciel.
While I was helping him burn the CD, I kept wishing I'd had a cool assignment like this when I was in school. The closest thing I ever did was translate my then-favorite song, Blinded By The Light, into French for my French Three class junior year.

Date: 2007-12-06 01:51 pm (UTC)We did that in either 11th or 12th grade English (it wasn't 10th or AP, because I had the same teacher for both of those, and it wasn't her).
I think I took The Rose by Bette Midler.
This is where I was introduced to Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
IIRC, there were a lot of songs that I *wanted* to take, but I was very limited by the lack of recordings available to me, esp as the teacher didn't have access to a record player.
