Yesterday's signing at Barnes & Noble was a little quiet, but a lot of fun. I sold about a third of the books on hand, and Jeff made me sign all the rest for display later, since "We sold out of all your signed books last time." Wheee!

The strangest moment had to be the guy who strolled up with three books in hand, talked to me about pirates for a few minutes, then sat down in an arm chair about two feet away. "I never buy books, I just read them here," he announced. And he did! He spent at least half an hour sitting there reading, and was still there when I left.

I was sorely tempted to ask him if he'd ever heard of the library. :D

I can understand your frustration as an author. And, as a former bookstore mgr, readers used to piss me off. Read a chapter or two - don't read the whole damn book. One guy would even take our free promo bookmarks with him and mark his place from week to week (If I had a patron who wanted that title, I would be sure to sell them the man's copy with his place marked). But as a poor-ish person I can maybe understand his rationality.

I can understand wanting to save money - God knows I've had those incredibly low-cash-flow periods in my life. But I went to the library.

(If I had a patron who wanted that title, I would be sure to sell them the man's copy with his place marked)

For the win!
