It was the last day of our annual beach trip, and I got up early to take a dawn walk. Our neighbors in the next rental house were packing their car in an awful hurry. I heard the mother say something about getting on the road before Grandma got out of the bathroom, and I couldn’t help laughing. Grandma must have been a serious pain all week. As I passed the house, someone inside screamed. Must have been one of the kids.

Taking an early morning walk near the river by my house, I came across the flock of geese-like birds that migrates up and down the river. I assume it was the same flock, because they are rather territorial, but this one would not migrate again: the poor dears were dead, torn apart by some wild creature with brownish blood marring their still-white feathers. It seemed like the river wanted to mourn its fallen compatriots as I would swear the waters moaned from beneath the surface.

Ill have to call the authorities. Maybe one of those big cats got loose from the zoo?
