Today in 1890, Howard Phillips Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He wrote science fiction, fantasy, and horror, a genre that during his life was called simply "weird fiction." He had to call it fiction, because if everyone knew it was all true, they'd have gone stark raving mad and taken to the streets in a frenzy of panic, screaming gibberish about Great Cthulhu waiting and sticky green star spawn falling from the heavens. *nervous laugh* But it's all fiction. Made up. Really. I swear.

Today was the first full day of school, and contrary to every other first day of school, not one student darkened the library's doorstep. Which made for a very boring peaceful day.

philipmcavery has really nifty plans for his faire garb this year. One component arrived today, and when he modeled it for me, I had to fan myself. It's killing me not to say what he'll be wearing, but trust me...it'll be good.

Our troupe (student and regular) are wanting to make a pilgrimage down to the Concord ren faire. About 1/2 of us have been before. (Plus Lee Ann told me that if we come to come in garb because our asses were getting pulled up on stage...)

troupe bonding

We (sister and I ) only got to go one day last summer. We were heading to Raleigh for the BDSS show and decided to make a weekend of it and take 'the long way' to Raleigh via Charlotte, see some friends, spend the day at Faire and then mosey over to Raleigh. Nobody knew we were coming. We sneaked up behind Cuynet and he almost died when we recognized the voices. "Well, if that isn't the cutest outfit I have ever seen." He turned around and WHAM man chest in my face when he gave me a manly bear hug. We hung out at the booth for several hours and then had to leave.

This time we want to have everybody, Hadrah (our main troupe, Hadrah dance Company, and Zayna Ziyad (the student troupe) both and just do a girls weekend. Hopefully no husbands or kids, just us girls. It's just a diferent dynamic, ya know?

We try to get away together every so often just to bond. Dinner out or go away somewhere. At the end of this month most of us are going to an outdoor all night hafla, Hafla au Naturale, and then in September we are going to Culturefest, a big multicultural festival, that is about 30 minutes away. This year BDers get in 1/2 price!
