Today in 1565, the city of St Augustine, Florida, was established. It is the oldest surviving European settlement in the United States. I've been there once, but I was so young at the time, the only thing I remember clearly was our visit to the Ripley's Museum, where the replica of Jeremy Bentham's mummified corpse flipped me out enough that I've had nightmares about it all these years since.

So, in honor of dear Mr Bentham's corpse...

Thirteen Things That Make Me Scream Like A Girl

1. Peering over cliffs
2. Touchdowns and goals (but only when I'm in attendance at the game. TV coverage just doesn't engender the same excitement.)
3. Ticks
4. Movies in which someone's eyes are gouged out, pierced, stabbed or otherwise badly damaged - I will leave the room if I think that's about to happen, and sometimes I won't come back at all.
5. People who try to throw me into a pool
6. Rain water down my neck
7. Maggots
8. Nightmares of being in a runaway car that has careened off a cliff/overpass/bridge and is now falling through space
9. Getting surprise packages (or, for that matter, getting packages I was expecting.)
10. Seeing old friends I haven't seen in a while.
11. Palmetto bugs
12. Being in orbit around the Earth (okay, no, I haven't actually experienced this, but I'm fairly certain I'd be screaming most of the time I was in the shuttle.)
13. Clowns

You know, it took me a minute to realize you were talking about the real Jeremy Bentham. I was wondering why there'd be a replica of Locke's mummified corpse in a museum at all, let alone long before Lost was even on TV.

Hee! Even though it's not in a museum as far as I know, Locke's corpse was bloody creepy itself!

I think they're still up at abc.com. If not, lostpedia has them.

Found 'em....poor John. Whoever did his casket makeup didn't try very hard, because Sawyer and Desmond both looked hot.

Okay, I just creeped myself out!
