Today in 1888, Jack the Ripper killed his first known victim, prostitute Mary Ann Nichols, slitting her throat from ear to ear. Which suddenly makes me want to sip absinthe and watch Johnny Depp solve the mystery of the Ripper. I'm just a romantic like that.


So I couldn't go to Dragon*Con, but I'm happy nonetheless. Because look what I got!



Yep, that's my cover painting! It's so beautiful, I'm so happy, and I'm now trying to figure out who I trust to frame it. *sigh*

Painting is gorgeous, of course. The cover goes so well with the book.

The pirate coat is also gorgeous. But I simply can't justify it. I mean, I have one already, and it's *green.*

From Hell is a wonderful movie. Mmmmm Johnny Depp.

But absinthe. Ewwww. I just couldn't deal with the taste. Though as one person who was there for the experiment said, "This stuff takes me to the Other Place." (No, we never decided where the Other Place was, we just knew we were there.) (Oh, and we did have to make our own, as it's illegal here, but it was the appropriate color, so some part of it was right.)

I had always wanted to try it, so three Christmases ago, my beloved "imported" a bottle from Paris for me. It tastes horrible, which is why there's still some in the bottle today.

But we have learned that a tiny shot of it will knock out a lingering cough like nothing that's on the market. *laughs*
