Oct. 2nd, 2008 04:54 pmToday in 1187, Saladin captured Jerusalem after 88 years of Crusader rule. The great Muslim leader was well-known for his chivalry, and had given so much of his personal treasury to charity throughout his life that there wasn't enough money for his funeral when he died.
Today on Magical Words, I talked about the joy of fan mail, both sending and receiving, and how it makes me cry. See, I'm a weeper...when I'm sad, when I'm happy, when I'm touched, when I'm grateful, doesn't matter. I'd have been a great soap opera star.
So for this Thursday's Thirteen, I'm listing thirteen things that bring on the waterworks:
1. Howie Day's song, "Collide"
2. Looking at pictures of the Beetle when he was a baby
3. Chapter 8 of the current work-in-progress (sorry, you'll just have to wait!)
4. Watching my parents and/or sister drive away after visiting me
5. The phone call scene at the end of My Best Friend's Wedding
6. Opening a gift and discovering it was something I desperately wanted yet didn't expect
7. The commercial in which Pete comes home and makes the Folger's coffee to wake up everyone
8. The next-to-last chapter of Tim Powers' The Drawing of the Dark
9. White Christmas (the song and the movie)
10. The ending sequence of "Final Fantasy 10" (yes, the video game. No, I didn't play it - my son did.)
11. Watching my friends dance, especially when they master a daring routine
12. Eddie Izzard's comedy (these would be tears of laughter, just so you know)
13. Spike Spiegel's death scene
So what makes you boo-hoo?

I'll Steal a few ideas from you
Date: 2008-10-02 09:56 pm (UTC)* The scene in the arena from Rome. In fact, several scenes from Rome
* The near ending of Mad Kestrel
* Watching Sweetness leave or pulling out of the drive at his place
* When Leonides says "it was an honor to have lived at yours" at the end of 300 or the end of Serenity, or... oh, heck, we'll be here all night if I list every book, movie or tv show that makes me sniffle.
* Jeff Dunham, when he does the Santa Ana riff with Peanut. That cracks me up so hard tears pour down my face.
* My partners-in-crime, who can make me scream and cry with laughter, or snuffle at some thoughtful deed they've done.
* "Tarzan Stripes Forever"
