Oct. 5th, 2008 11:01 amToday in 1969, the first episode of the famous comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus aired on BBC. And there was much rejoicing!
We spent yesterday at the opening day of the Carolina Renaissance Faire. (Again, with the rejoicing!) We saw lots of dear friends we only see around faire time, and had a simply gorgeous day. One of the best parts was unveiling Todd's sooper-sekrit costume.

He worked hard to get ready for it, and people seemed to appreciate him wherever he went. We were stopped at the gate initially, because the gatekeeper said he couldn't come in without a shirt. When I offered to pin the cape across his chest, they relented. Whew! We made our way to the belly dancer's stage, where he met with great approval. He made Aliscia miss her first spin, and when Yasmine caught sight of him, she told all the ladies in the audience to turn around and see what she was seeing. *hee!*
And now I must tell the Tale of the Greaves (leg armor.) We originally ordered a pair from an online vendor(and that's a whole other story - if you ever think about ordering from By The Sword, talk to me first. Their customer service is the pits), but when they arrived, they were huge. They would have fit his thigh! At this point we were on a deadline, and I feared returning the greaves would take too long, so I called Tandy Leather in Charlotte to see if they could perhaps cut them down for us. The manager there recommended Nate Gandy, a local leatherworker. I emailed Nate, who wrote me back within the hour, asking a number of questions about the greaves. I sent him the answers and a picture of the greaves, and he said he'd be able to do what we needed easily. But then he included a photo of the kind of greaves he made himself. They were the same price as the ones we'd bought, but looked much, much nicer. Nate assured me he'd be able to make them to Todd's specific measurements and within a week. I returned the first pair and ordered from Nate instead. They arrived a week later, fit Todd perfectly and looked fantastic. If you need leather work done, I can't recommend him highly enough. You can contact him via his website, Mojo Leather. He will treat you right.
Today I'm home, working on the page proofs for the uncoming mass market edition of Mad Kestrel. They're due back in about two weeks, so no more playing for me this weekend. Hope you all have a lovely rest-of-the-weekend, and if any of you are out at faire, raise a mug for me at Pub Sing!

Date: 2008-10-07 03:46 pm (UTC)I have to tell you that when the wnechlette heard on the TV "Misty broke her ankle dancing" she begged me to call you and see if you needed anything. It kinda broke my heart to tell her they were talking about Misty May-Tranor on Dancing with the Stars. She argued that you were famous now, both for dancing and the Book, and wouldn't settle down until we went online and got the whole story.
