I just opened my Gmail to find a message from my editor asking for details on Kestrel's clothing and ship design for the art department. You know, the people who will paint the book's cover.

My book. It's going to have a cover.

*insane happy dance*

Yes, I know I'm being silly, but every time I'm reminded that my book is actually going to BE a book, I get so excited it hurts a little. I wonder when this becomes ordinary. Second book? Fourth?

Ever?

UPDATE: Well, Kim and Faith assure me that it never stops being exciting. And they should know. ;)

I talk about you constantly, I'm excited too and I didn't even write the bloody thing. What did you tell them about the cover?

*blushes* Thank you, beloved.

I told them that Kes wears brown breeches tucked into scuffed leather boots, a red silk shirt and a sword belt (when she's going armed.) She also keeps her black hair braided most of the time, but I won't complain if they paint her with long hair flowing in the wind. Hell, I'm not in much of a mind to complain about anything. *grin*

The ship Thanos is a two-masted brigantine, black with red-painted railing. It used to have black sails, but then the movie came out and the Pearl had black sails, so I dropped that bit. I was afraid it would seem gimmicky.

Yiippie! That's so exciting!! Very cool that they asked you what she looks like. I'm told lots of authors have no input in the cover process.

...And here I thought illustrators got to read the book(...er proofs, at this point?) before they made the cover.

You're not kidding! I'd heard all sorts of horror stories about the cover art looking nothing like the story inside, so this was nice.

And here I thought illustrators got to read the book...

I guess they need to get moving on the cover art now, even though I haven't turned in my line edits yet.
